Hood ornaments, one of the collectible items, are related to convoys.
After finding the route, you must locate the convoy itself.
It can be found at any point of the track.
Look for a cloud of dust left behind the convoy, this will allow you to find it faster.
If the route is going through covered territories, spotting the cloud might be harder or even impossible.
In that case you must drive through the uncovered convoy route.
At some point you will spot the enemy vehicle group.
Each convoy consists of a leader’s truck, which is your main target, and the guards.
Eliminating the leader automatically eliminates the whole convoy.
Because of that, the guards will focus on making it harder for you.
There are many ways to destroy leaders' trucks.
At the beginning, shooting the unprotected fuel tank will be enough.
Gas tanks will become covered and the tires reinforced.
Upgraded harpoon and theThunderpoonwill become useful.
One of the upgrades forMax’svehicle’s wheels will also allow dealing damage when driving near enemy vehicle.
This will stop the whole convoy.
Remember that you could install them in your own vehicle - various masks give various bonuses.

As long as you remain on the route, enemy vehicles will not respawn.
