When it comes to the positioning itself, I recommend that you adopt the tactical approach.
Much depends on the objectives, e.g.
Always have a go at have tougher characters fight in the first line.
Keep Kay and the rest farther away from the enemies.
The battle screen presents many important elements.
These have been described below:

Each of the characters in the battle can move a specific number of fields.
During your turns, the character can move and perform one additional action: use an object or skill.
When you roll your mouse over an opponent, a short information note about him will display.
Here, you’re free to look up, e.g.
health points, defense points.
Movement queue.Here, you learn about the order of movement of your characters.
Characters with higher initiative have the way of movement.
Information about the battlefield.
After you roll your mouse over this icon, you will receive information about the battlefield.
Some of them, e.g.
limit the freedom of movement of characters.
Here, you’re free to access all of the skills of a given character.
Information about the active character.
This option informs you about a character’s name, health points and available defense points.
Apart from that, you will ooften gain valuable items for the party.
