If the particular slot contained an item or a person, they will go overboard.

Can passengers be retrieved?
Some Pursuits require taking a passenger/passengers on board.
Such a passenger cannot be saved and dissapears completely from the game.
If the person was involved in a Pursuit, the quest is concluded instantly.
How to limit the loss of items?
Whenever possible,place your most valuable items in Storage and take them out as the need arises.
In Storage, items are safe from any harm and there is no possiblity of them dissapearing from it.
Your Storage can be accessed from any dock location, simply choose My Storage.
