As a matter of fact you will need to improve these weapons.
The first thing is to grant them Ring Bayonets or Socket Bayonets, instead of Plug Bayonets.
Moreover you will need the Fire by Rank ability and Square Formation.
Do not forget about industry and agriculture - but there are no very important technologies.
5.To develop your technology very quickly you will need some agents (gentlemen).
Build some cultural or educational constructions (academies, observatories, etc.)
to grant yourself a stable access to very intelligent workers.
Deploy them in research centers to support the development.
