Stances are different styles of combat with a katana.Each stance helps you eliminate certain types of opponents.

Companions are not immortal - they can be knocked to the ground and start bleeding out.
React quickly - their death can fail a mission or make you lose the battle.
You have tens of seconds to stash your companion.
However, healing also takes time.
Each of these options will help you to safely reach an ally and “resurrect” them.
