Make an observation of woman standing behind the counter (three clues).
Talk with the woman (in Poirot’s notebook you will see information about another suspect- Miss Merrion).
When Miss Merion goes away to serve the customer, look at the counter.
Zoom out and then smack the book once again (1 ego point).
Talk with Miss Merrion.
Finally, sympathize about the difficulty of keeping a respectable establishment (3 ego points).
After this conversation Miss Merion’s status will change from suspect to witness.
