Otherwise, you’ll have to forgo democracy and introduce a totalitarian rule.

Aside from happiness, approval is garnered through the economic situation of the island and your election promises.
Happiness is a mean of all happiness factors.

If your citizens are unhappy, they will start to protest.
you might act in one of a few ways - negotiate, or deal with the protesters by force.
you’re able to agree and comply with their wishes or send military to deal with the protesters.
Sometimes, unhappy citizens can become rebels.
